Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

Fancyclopedia aims to publish useful, readable, and historically responsible reference content about science fiction fandom. This policy explains how the site approaches topic selection, editing, corrections, and transparency.

Editorial Goals

  • Explain fandom topics in clear language for general readers and researchers.
  • Preserve context about fanzines, conventions, fan communities, awards, terminology, and notable figures.
  • Improve thin or outdated entries over time with stronger context and clearer structure.
  • Avoid misleading claims, unsupported certainty, and unnecessary sensationalism.

Sources and Verification

Articles may draw on public records, convention histories, fan publications, books, archives, official pages, direct corrections, and other relevant sources. When a claim is uncertain, the site should avoid presenting it as settled fact.

Corrections

Readers are encouraged to send corrections, additional context, and source notes through the contact page. Reasonable corrections are reviewed and may be incorporated into articles. For best results, include the page URL, the specific passage, and supporting evidence.

AI-Assisted Drafting and Images

Some site improvements, summaries, or illustrative images may be assisted by editorial tools, including AI tools. AI-assisted material should be reviewed before publication and should not be treated as a substitute for source-based editing, human judgment, or correction review.

Independence and Advertising

Advertising, if present, does not determine article conclusions or editorial treatment. Sponsored or promotional material should be clearly identified if it is ever published.

Content Quality

The site avoids publishing pages that exist only to target keywords, pages with copied material without added value, or pages that mislead users about what they will find. Articles should provide enough original context to be useful on their own.
